Finding out about each unique child and what makes them tick will help us in planning an environment for everyone
Quickly building a portrait of a new child through your observations of (and interactions with) them is important- not just for checking on progress later but in shaping your decisions about what you intend to provide for them next. There can be a tendency to concentrate on things that are easy to quantify, like knowing colours or what they can count to but finding out about how they display Characteristics of Effective Learning and how they communicate are much more significant, especially if we think they may need some early help.
