Transition

EYFS and Year 1

Rob Nicholson

Children will have missed large parts of their EYFS educational entitlement. What does this mean for transition?

Although a proportion of the September 2020 year 1 cohort will have benefited from a return to their reception classes this summer it is obvious that the year group has suffered a significant disruption. The EYFSP was not recorded in 2020 but common sense suggests that this year we will not have the majority of children attaining Early Learning Goals and a Good Level of Development as they leave reception and therefore provision in Year 1 will need to be modified. In any case, the firm foundations that the EYFS provides will have been only partially built and we need to continue that building throughout Year 1. We can achieve this in a more holistic way than simply carrying on ‘like Reception’ until Christmas!
