Exploring how the outdoor environment supports children’s transition to school or setting
The importance of the outdoor area and of learning outdoors is well acknowledged in the EYFS, Ofsted inspection frameworks and a wealth of publications, training courses and resource materials yet we can still sometimes feel that it is a commodity that must be rationed. In the EYFS we have an explicit professional freedom and duty to ensure children play and learn outdoors and current thinking is that children are safer from risks of infection if they are outside rather than in close proximity to others indoors. If anything, at the moment, we should be questioning our justification to take children inside!
