Transition

Routines & Rhythms

Rob Nicholson

Exploring how we will need to adjust our daily and weekly routines to take account of the unique needs of the cohort.

Over time, settings and practitioners develop routines, timetables and systems (those little routines we teach like putting your painting on the drying rack when it’s finished) that generally work effectively for the room, class, setting or school. However, this year our children will have had a very different experience and, even if they have benefited from a return in June, we cannot assume that we can just carry on as normal. If we think about just how much progress children make in both tiny steps and giant leaps everyday in a strong EYFS setting then it will be obvious that missing 10- 20 weeks will have had an impact. It’s pretty clear that we cannot simply carry on regardless! More copy to add to website
